Shark Hole Dive
PLACENCIA ONLY

This tiny sinkhole is located inside the Main Barrier Reef north of Tobacco Caye in about 30 feet of water. Eons ago, the Shark Hole was above water and formed a huge domed cave. Part of the roof of this cave fell in, creating an opening in the top of the dome through which we dive. The cave was discovered by fishermen hunting permit and tarpon for sports fishing. These two kinds of fish, as well as other large schools, can often be seen in and around the entrance of the hole. This is what is believed to attract the several species of shark from which the cave gets its name.

It is also Belizeʼs most completely formed coral atoll offering a wide abundance of coral and marine life, unmatched by any dive location in Belize. Blue Hole Dive or Snorkel
Duration: 12 HRS
The Great Blue Hole is a large underwater sinkhole off of the coast of Belize. It lies near the center of Lighthouse Reef atoll about 65 miles from Placencia. It was formed as a limestone cave system during the last ice age when sea levels were much lower. As the ocean began
to rise the caves flooded, and the roof collapsed. The hole is almost perfectly circular, over 1,000 feet across and 400 feet deep, and is almost surrounded by fringing reefs which make for an excellent snorkel adventure as well. This site was made famous by Jacques-Yves Cousteau who declared it one of the top ten best SCUBA diving sites in the world.

In spring time in Belize, whale sharks frequently visit a unique area on the reef called Gladden Split. This area, about 30 miles east of Placencia, is used by over 20 species of Caribbean fish to release their eggs. However, it is the eggs of the black or cubera snappers that the whale sharks show up on cue to feed on. And, although you can find whale sharks all over the world, what makes Gladden Split so unique is that this is the only place where you can dive with whale sharks and encounter huge schools of spawning fish at the same time.
